Roasty Toasty Royalty

After reading Lolita Charm's January Style Tips, I decided I'd post some tips of my own to keep my fellow British Princesses warm and cosy in the sudden chill.

1. Say goodbye to frozen toes and look at these cute slippers from Primark. These are perfect to keep your twinkly toes warm and they look nice with a gold tiara too!
2. Got a blouse with removable sleeves? Stick those suckers back on there! I've found that people tend to leave them off most of the time. So pull on those sleeves and keep warm against the chill.
3. Go out and get yourself a cute coat! With the January sales looming, now is the perfect time to search for that total bargain find!
4. Now's the time to save energy so instead of turning up that radiator, let's wrap ourselves up with our favourite cardigans. Layers, layers, layers!
5. Use this time to try out fun and yummy hot drinks. My favourite is making Galaxy hot chocolate and adding cinnamon and mini marshmallows. If you're old enough to drink (or your parents permit you to) try adding some Bailey's to your hot cocoa for an extra warm drink.
6. Don't say lazy! (See what I did there?) Get your blood flowing and do some exercise. Wii fit has plenty of cool options or just simply get up and do some early spring cleaning.
7. Snow is made from water and water is styled hair's worst enemy. Jazz up your favourite outfit with a fun hat or bonnet. Or if covering up your hair isn't the way to go, earmuffs are adorable and come in every colour, shape and theme under the clouds!

So there are my top tips for winter, even if you aren't Lolita. Keeping warm is the key in the Big Freeze (it's that bad, there's even a name for it!). So princesses (or princes!), get warm, be active and enjoy the snow while it's here!

Meme Time + Discussion of her Dream Prince

Friday, 8 January 2010 |

A Lolita Meme, taken from Makelovely's Blog, who stole it from F*** Yeah Lolita.

1. Best fashion advice you've ever recieved?
I can't choose between the two.
1. It's ok to make lolita your own as long as you do it properly.
2. Make clothes! It's cheaper than buying things and gives you a warm fuzzy feeling inside when people compliment you.

2. Style Icons?
As far as lolitas go, Victoria Suzanne from Lolita Charm has to take the prize. Her outfits are lovely, her hair is fabulous and I always look forward to reading her blog.

Second, Kanon Wakeshima. She is so beautiful and I admire her interesting dresses. Not only that but she has a beautiful and enchanting voice!

3. Describe your personal style.
Most days, I'm a casual hime. I really like the princessy style and a friend of mine even said that my head was made for a tiara. (I have to say, that comment made me feel really good!)
I also like sweet styles, but mostly for meet ups. And for formal events, I'll wear classic.

4. Favourite designers/brands?
I think BABY wins that prize. I simply adore their sugary sweet prints and they even make stuff that a princess like me can wear on a regular basis.

5. Most cherished item.
My pink Bodyline shoes. Yes, I know, I'm such a cheaptard ><; but those shoes are so pretty and they are sickeningly adorable and ridiculously comfortable.

6. Most used item.
Hmmm... probably my tiara. Or my black skirt I bought offbrand from Primark. It has multiple uses and goes with everything.

7. I feel best wearing...
Something princessy, preferably white. And something with little lace, but the amount that is on it is just enough.

8. The first thing I look for in a lolita's outfit is...
Something interesting. Whether it be a simple handmade accessory or an extraordinary offbrand find, I like to find something about them that is unique.

9. Lolita fashion rule you never break.
Skirt shape. If I don't wear a petticoat I feel like I'm doing it wrong (and chances are I look like it too...).

10. Never caught wearing?
OTT Gothic styles. TBH, black looks baddddd on me unless I am wearing white with it. So I will never wear anything extremely gothic. It's just wrong.

11. Dress to impress who?
I dress to impress myself. I also dress to impress people around me. Getting compliments makes me feel good and makes me feel worthy of the fashion.

12. Your next "must-have" purchase?
It my not be my next one but my New Year's Resolution this year is to own at least one brand dress. And as I am going to the BABY store in Paris this summer, that shouldn't be too hard I think.

13. Your favourite type of head accessory?
Tiaras and mini crowns. I love them so much. I also loveee those head-eating bows. So cute!

14. Favourite cut of clothing (shirring, high waist, princess seams etc)?
For brand clothing, shirring. Anything that isn't won't fit properly. But for handmade pieces I love princess seams. (Did you guess that already?)

15. Current obsession?
Hime style <3>

16. Best Lolita fashion advice you can give to anyone.
Make your outfits unique. Don't be ordinary and just wear a dress as it is, add a cute accessory or two. Don't be afraid! Try it!

Blog post part 2: Discussion of her Dream Prince
Ok, so we all have an idea of what we want our dream prince/princess to be like, however most of the time it is a little unrealistic.
Example: *ahem* I want my prince to be tall and handsome, someone who will come and whisk me away in a carriage into the sunset and buy me nice things all the time and never want to see anyone but me blah blah blah.
NOT GUNNA HAPPEN.
We have to come up with realistic ideas about our prince/princess, right? Otherwise it will never happen and you will never get your happily ever after.
REALISTIC Example: I'd like my princess to be sweet but with a few rough edges. I'd like to be there for her if she needs a shoulder to cry on and I'd like her to know I'll be there for her. I don't want her to be controlling, but I'd like it if she planned things for us to do once in a while blah blah blah.
Now, after reading that little lot, I bet your thinking "What's Princess Freya's dream prince like?". Well, I could tell you all of it but it'd be a long and boring post. (Not that this isn't already a long and boring post...) But I'll give a few little hints.
Princess Freya's Perfect Prince
  • Someone who will be there for me when I need them the most BUT not drop everything just for my sake.
  • Someone who will love me even when I'm covered in lace and frills and won't be embrassed to walk by my side.
  • Someone who will surprise me with things I like BUT not spoil me.
  • Someone who will realise it take a long time to make myself up in the morning so they might drop a compliment or two through the day BUT will criticize me when I look terrible.
  • Someone who realises that fashion is my life and I will spend a lot of time at the sewing machine... maybe even when they're around.
They don't sound too unrealistic do they?

What I'm Currently Working On: Part 2

Photo from Google Images
Project 2: Bedroom Design!
I recently moved the bunk bed I had in my room into my sibling's room in exchange for a single wooden bed. (I have thought about painting it white...) Over this I will put a canopy (white with rhinestones) that will open in the middle to reveal pink bedsheets with white lacy pillows. In the corner, I have a desk that I have set up to be my dressing table. On it I have:
  • My dressing table set (featured in this blog)
  • A small box with a butterfly on it with earrings in
  • A silver clam shell box with odd jewellery bits in it
  • 2 Nail Polishes, clear and pink
  • A jewellery stand
  • A framed fan
  • Facial care products
  • A tube of lavender clay face mask
  • Body Spray
  • A pull out shelf with my favourite necklaces and hair accessories on it
  • My makeup
There are also lights on the wall which will frame my mirror when I get one. Above that is a shelf with my figures on it. My chair is pink and fluffy. I will have pink curtains and a new bedside table. The plan is to make it as princessy as possible with on my budget.

I didn't have a princess room when I was little so I'm having one now ^^

Project explanation complete! On to the next one...

This JSK is one that is available from FanPlusFriend, priced $116.

Now, I bet your thinking "Why the hell did she put that there?" and I only did that because it's a really really nice JSK. However, I want to focus on the picture that is to the left. My next project is going to be based on this JSK. I'll be making one similar to it to go with the theme of "Tea Party". The shape will be the same, minus the ruffles at the top. Instead of the diamond and heart shapes, I'll be sewing on teacup and cupcake silhouettes in a blue coloured fabric. I've chosen that colour because I actually have already made a blue teacup headdress to go with the dress.

No makeup D: Beware

I made this headband with a tea set I bought from Early Learning Centre. I just hot glued the teacup to the saucer, hot glued a spoon in and decorated with some brown faux flowers I bought from Fabric Land. The whole thing is mounted on a piece of white felt with embroidery anglais edging around it. Then it was hot glued to a simple clear plastic headband. Looks cute, huh? It's so easy and only cost me around £10 to make. So that headdress is the reason why I chose blue for the silhouettes on the dress. Next I'll talk about the bows. The bows will be made from Cupcakes Blue, Fabricland £2.99 per meter, and edged with white lace. The bottom of the dress will have gathered fabric around the edge and the neckline will have white lace on. All of the ribbon edging will be a brown like the flowers on the headdress (that colour's gotta go somewhere, right?).
First project explanation complete! On to the next...

"If you see me as just a princess then you misunderstand who I am and what I've been though." - Mariah Carey

You know, I don't even know why I am writing. I just felt like it I guess.
I'm playing a long game of 60 Minute Makeover with my bedroom. Stage 1 is complete, I've moved out the bunk bed and moved in the single bed. I also cleared my desk of all the junk that was on it and started setting it out as a dressing table. (I need a mirror orz)
I've also set aside 2 drawers [so far] to be my "Lolita Drawers". These will hold my shoes, accessories, handbags, off-season skirts and bloomers (when I make some). All of my in-season stuff is hung up in my wardrobe ready to be worn.
Mikey now has his own shelf for the clothes he leaves at mine when he stays over. He only has shirts and PJ bottoms on it at the moment. But it is a shelf and it is Mikey's. Love you Mikey ! x
Next up is to get the fabric for my princess canopy, the fabric for the wall decorations and get a mirror.
Oh mi gosh, I finally read Alice In Wonderland! In it's original context as well. It's a brilliant book, though it is very bizarre. I'd give it an overall score of 4 out of 5. -1 point for the beginning, it started rather slowly in my opinion.
I also watched the TV movie "Alice in Wonderland" starring Tina Majorino and Whoopi Goldberg. It was fantastic but I didn't like the fact that towards the end it started to run into the story of Through The Looking Glass. 3 out of 5 for that one.
Right, ramble over I think. Time for bed! Night all!

A new compact mirror with gems on it. I love this so much

A big photo of stuff. A few pairs of earrings, some pearl hair clips, peticure kit, markers, scarf and glove set, a mug, a ring from Mikey, nail varish, a big jawbreaker and chocolates.

A close up of my pearl hair clips.

I got a lot of nice stuff for Christmas, including a new phone (LG KP501 "Cookie"), and had a lovely day with my family.
I also saw my friend Dave the day after Boxing Day. :3
We had a lovely day together, went for lunch, a walk in the park, had a few games on the dance machine and enjoyed some yummy hot milkshakes from Shakeaway. I really enjoyed it and I hope he comes around again soon. <3

And finally New Years came around. We spent it with some friends, had nibbles and I took a walk in the dark to work it off. We stayed up until midnight drinking and playing Buzz TV Quiz then Mikey rang and we saw the New Year in together.
Akemashite Omedeto!
New Years Resolutions:
- To keep up with my project, Project 365
- To save up enough money for a new camera
- To buy at least one brand lolita dress
- To lose enough to fit into my one brand lolita dress

I hope everyone had a brilliant Christmas and have a fun and memorable 2010!
